Each year members of our church head to Henderson Settlement, in Frakes, Kentucky. During our various trips, we have learned about the settlement, met many of the staff and local folks, pealed apples, worked in the thrift shop, filled food boxes, built ramps and moved large food coolers.
Elsie French explained, “Not only were we able to serve others less fortunate than ourselves, we were able to see Philippians 4:12 in action. These folks face every crisis head on knowing that God will provide and all will be well. What a lesson for us!”
Our church supports the Midwest Mission Distribution Center financially and through donated items. In addition, members from our congregation work annually as volunteers.
The Center is a disaster relief facility located on an 8 acre campus, 4 miles south of Springfield, Illinois. They offer opportunities for individuals and groups to help provide disaster relief kits and resources, as well as educational and medical supplies to those in need both locally and internationally. With the help of volunteers who come to the center to work, they assemble, sort and ready for distribution: School Supplies, Cleaning Buckets and Health, Layette, Bedding, Sewing and Birthing Kits.
Please meet Saul. Our church sponsors Saul, who is a ninth grade student at Rey Solomon School in the Oriental Market area of Managua, Nicaragua. The Rey Solomon School is sponsored by the Nicaragua Resource Network based in Westfield, IN. One of our church members, Ray Hedstrom, has made numerous trips to Nicaragua and not only serves but takes t-shirts and whatever else he can fit in his suitcase.
